Beach Vacation 2012

This year's beach vacation was the best yet! Both kids loved the beach and had a blast.

Two years ago Claire spent most of her time on the beach asking if I'd take her back up to the house. It's fairly annoying to haul two kids and all that they require down to the surf, get the kids lathered in sunscreen and settled into a good sand project, crack open a good book, and then have Claire request to go back inside.

But this year as soon as we got the car unloaded they both begged to go onto the beach. I took them while Dave unpacked. I didn't bother to change them into swim suits since it was nearly dinner time and I thought we were going to quickly stick our feet in the water, dig around in the sand, and then head back to the house. Wrong! They wanted to play in the surf. Last year we couldn't get Claire in the surf until an hour before we headed home. This year, we couldn't get her out. A few days were a little chilly, but overall the weather was great for the beginning of June. Elizabeth - and Sheridan and Ed - did all the cooking, which was fantastic. It was so nice to have homecooked meals that weren't prepared by me!

We all had a fantastic time, and as always, are very grateful for the generosity of Dave's parents. (And Grandma and Grandpa's photo book thank you is forthcoming.)

Get Well Soon, Grandpa!

We all hope you mend quickly - or at least have less pain quickly! Alex and Claire made you a video (below) and drew you some pictures to make you feel better. They even considered loaning you some of their movies and videos to watch as you recover. So if you want to see Blues Clues or the Cars movie, just let us know. Alex said that he is very sad that your shiny red car got wrecked. (We told him Grandpa is too.)

Summer Fun

What We've Been Up To This Summer
  • Enjoying day trips (Busch Gardens and Sherando Lake completed; Richmond zoo trip, Northern Neck wedding, and a river day are forthcoming)
  • Taking care of the garden and enjoying cherry tomatoes and cucumbers (and lamenting the passage of the unfruitful broccoli and heirloom tomatoes)
  • Playing on the new playset and "treehouse" (a plastic playhouse recycled from our neighbors' boys)
  • Playing indoors A LOT (that is, avoiding the heat!) - like at the new Children's Museum in Short Pump (not a museum at all but a nice and cool indoor play area)
  • Taking swimming lessons (Alex)
  • Turning 2 (Claire)
  • Playing soccer (Alex - through Richmond Kickers at his daycare)
  • Looking forward to our week in Sandbridge with the extended family
  • Looking forward to fall activities (CORE Kids gymnastics through daycare for Claire and River City Youth Fitness sports and gymnastics class for Alex)

Dancing Queen - Part II

What I find most funny is how obediently Claire follows Alex's order.

Dancing Queen

P.S. One of the reasons I haven't posted much is because of how cumbersome Blogger is. Writing text is easy, but adding pictures and video where I want them within the text is a huge issue. Stay tuned for another forum if I can find a better (and free/inexpensive) one in my free time...
