Haircuts! Part II and Video

Three things I didn't include in my earlier post...

When Dave came home from work the day Alex got his hair cut, as soon as Alex heard him come in he exclaimed proudly, "Daddy! I got my hair cut!" It was very cute.

When I came in last night with my new 'do, Dave whispered in Alex's ear and then Alex said (that is, repeated), "Mommy, you look pretty." But unprompted he said, "Your hair looks...[a pause as he searches for the right word]...better."

And as promised, here's a photo from today, the "after" photo of Alex's hair. Alex and Claire were playing nicely together:

And some video from today. Nothing particularly interesting. Just a typical afternoon when it's too cold to play outside. (Yes, Mom, the toy you bought Alex for his first birthday is still a hit with him. And Claire likes it too.)
ETA (edited to add): Tonight when I gave Alex a kiss goodnight, instead of lying there quietly as usual, he turned to me and said, "I love you! Your hair looks good, Mommy." Awwwww!

Haircuts!

On Tuesday Alex got his hair cut at a salon/barbershop for only the second time ever. The first time was when he was 10 months old. Dave and I took him to Dave’s barbershop, Fadool's. Alex HATED it! Proof here:

(I don't think that lollipop did anything to repair the relationship between him and Jim the barber.)

So to make haircuts less traumatic (we thought) we got a Flowbee. Remember those? (Looking at the pictures above, I think that's what the barber was using.) It attaches to the vacuum cleaner and sucks up the hair, cuts it, and sucks away the clippings. Well, in addition to the whirl of the Flowbee, the vacuum cleaner raises the noise level another 10 notches and makes Alex cower in fright. Turning on the TV to distract him yields little success since the TV’s volume has to be turned up to the max level. Not a very relaxing experience with the TV blaring, vacuum cleaner droning, and the Flowbee whirling (and then there’s Mommy’s incessant chattering in the other ear about how good he is and that’ll it be over in a few minutes as Daddy hurriedly swooshes the Flowbee back and forth over his head).

Alex’s hair was a wee bit long and out of control:

(OK, this picture exaggerates the length a bit since he was looking up at the camera, but you get the idea.)

We’ve been wanting to try out the kids’ salon I’d heard about (Pigtails and Crewcuts), but I was dragging my feet thinking that the experience was going to be horrid. I knew Saturday mornings would be insanely busy there (and with my 10K training run and Romp N Roll classes, Saturday mornings around our house are hectic enough), so I knew I’d have to take both kids by myself during the week and I was fully prepared for screaming fits (from all three of us). What a delightful surprise: Alex was the perfect client! He sat still for the stylist for the entire time she cut and trimmed and combed. I think it definitely helped that I checked out Mop Top from the library a couple of weeks ago and told him he was going to be a big boy just like Moppy was. (Oh, and I guess the TV and DVD player that the salon has helped too.)

After picture to come. (I guess in my shock at how smoothly everything went I forgot to get a picture after he was all done.)

Alex motivated me to get my hair cut too. I finally got a referral for a new stylist (Shauna at Hair Perfection if anyone needs someone) since I was dissatisfied with the guy I’d been going to and she did a fantastic job. I think I lost about 12 inches from the back!
